First Annual Double Shot Summary

posted Jul 12, 2009, 7:06 PM by Eric Fetterman
KTBA hosted their First Annual Double Shot tournament sponsored by Singer On Site Tire on Oneida lake, launching out of Oneida Shores Park. We had 21 boats sign up for the tournament in search of two 3 fish limits. The weather was very grim for the day with winds expected to reach 20mph out of the south with strong thunderstorms in the forecast. At the 6 a.m. blast off, the winds have not reached us yet and the lake was very calm for Oneida. All participants had a 10 a.m. weigh in time for the first tournament. When all boats arrived, we were greeted with breakfast snacks provided by Singer Tire. Once all bags were weighed in, the top 3 teams were separated by mere ounces. The 3rd place went to team Garone and Pikuluski, with a nice 3 fish limit of smallmouth weighing in at 8.51 lbs. In 2nd place went to KTBA Platinum Sponsor Team Hanafin and Morgan weighing another nice smallmouth bag of 8.57 lbs. Taking 1st place in the first tournament of the day was the father and son duo, Team Burlingame weighing in a largemouth and  2 smallmouth with a weight of 8.67 lbs. Big Bass award went to Stephen Mayo who brought in a beautiful largemouth that weighed 3.88 lbs.
After all boats were ready, with a little snack in them it was off to line up again to blast off for tournament # 2 at 10:30 a.m. This time Oneida started to get a little choppy and we knew the storms would be upon us soon. All teams had a weigh in time of 2:30 p.m. Just as the tournament was ending, the rain and the thunder started to greet us. As boats pulled out of the water they had a wonderful array of food including hot dogs, chips, candy, water again supplied by our Platinum Sponsor and sponsor of the First Annual Double Shot. This was a wonderful treat to all fisherman. With 125 hot dogs amongst hungry fisherman, they sure didn't last very long. The weigh in began just in time as we had the wonderful opportunity to experience mother nature and how hard she can make it rain. We got dumped on!!! After getting through the drenching rain- along with thunder and lightning, we did manage to get all bags weighed in before the storm hit hard. The second tournament seemed to be a little slow out on the water and the limits of fish seem to get cut down pretty significantly. Winning 3rd place went to Team Mcfadden and Skrivan weighing a limit of fish that came in at 7.14 lbs. Again, 2nd place went to Team Garone and Pikuluski taking plaques and cash for the second time today with a limit weighing in at 7.85 lbs. KTBA also thanks you greatly with donating the rod and hat for our raffle that was won by one of our fishermen. Earning 1st place and big bag of the tournament went to the father and son duo Team Perera. They weighed a very nice 3 fish limit of largemouth that tipped the scales at 9.67 lbs. Big Bass award went to Jim Ritter who enticed a 3.83 lb. largemouth to bring to the scales. We would like to thank all fisherman who participated in this tournament. This was a great success for our First Annual Double Shot and we hope all will show up again next year. Again KTBA would like to thank Singer On Site Tire who donated all the food and helped us at the weigh-ins. Make sure you keep Singer in mind when you need tires!
