The Mediterranean Fan Palm is a selected form of Chamaerops humilis that originated in a nursery on Sicily (not actually on the island of Vulcano, as is often stated!) that is dwarf in many of its features: slower growng, shorter in stature, with smaller stiffer leaves. As with its bigger cousin, Chamaerops humilis 'Vulcano' is variable in the actual size and form of the leaves and, especially, the degree of silver on the leaf underside. Mature plants of this cultivar are especially beautiful, possessing a compact symmetry that is lost when the form is expanded. A choice garden palm!
